Resveratrol protects against copper and iron toxicity in Drosophila melanogaster

چکیده

BackgroundCopper (Cu) and iron (Fe) are essential trace elements that when in excess capable of causing cytotoxic effects leading to lipid peroxidation promoting oxidative stress. Resveratrol (RES) is a natural polyphenol with antioxidant anti-inflammatory properties. This study was carried out evaluate the protective role RES Fe Cu sulphate-induced stress Drosophila melanogaster. MethodsAdult wild type flies were fed Cu2+ Fe2+ (1 mM each) and/or (30 60 mg/kg diet) for 7 days. Survival, negative geotaxis emergence rate evaluated by daily recording fruit fly mortality final analysis. Fruit anaesthetized using CO2 gas, homogenized centrifuged at 4,000 rpm 10 minutes 4 °C. Aliquots supernatants used estimation biochemical markers spectrophotometry. ResultsFruit co-treated FeSO4 + CuSO4 mg/Kg) significantly elevated H2O2, NO, peroxidation, acetylcholinesterase as well GSH, GST, catalase total thiols (p<0.05) compared (1mM treated group. Flies 60mg/Kg) also had improved (p< 0.05) eclosion climbing rates ConclusionThis demonstrated reduced Fe2+-induced radical generation D. melanogaster buffering capability flies. Therefore, could be management disorders involving

Green Tea Protects Testes against Atrazine-induced Toxicity in Rat

Background: Atrazine (ATZ) is a common herbicide in agriculture for control of grass and broad-leaved weeds. It persists in the environment and causes reproductive problems in both human and animals. The present study was aimed at protective effect of green tea against ATZ toxicity in the reproductive system of male rats. Methods: The present study was performed in Veterinary School, Shahid ...

Iron Absorption in Drosophila melanogaster

The way in which Drosophila melanogaster acquires iron from the diet remains poorly understood despite iron absorption being of vital significance for larval growth. To describe the process of organismal iron absorption, consideration needs to be given to cellular iron import, storage, export and how intestinal epithelial cells sense and respond to iron availability. Here we review studies on t...

Copper homoeostasis in Drosophila melanogaster S2 cells.

Copper homoeostasis was investigated in the Drosophila melanogaster S2 cell line to develop an insect model for the study of copper regulation. Real-time PCR studies have demonstrated expression in S2 cells of putative orthologues of human Cu regulatory genes involved in the uptake, transport, sequestration and efflux of Cu. Drosophila orthologues of the mammalian Cu chaperones, ATOX1 (a human ...

Tangeretin protects renal tubular epithelial cells against experimental cisplatin toxicity

Objective(s): Cisplatin is an effective antineoplastic agent; its clinical utility, however, is limited by a few salient toxic side effects like nephrotoxicity. This study aimed to determine the potential protective effects of tangeretin, a citrus-derived flavonoid, against renal tubular cell injury in cisplatin-induced renal toxicity of rats.Materials and Methods: Tangeretin was injected intra...

Aconitase and Developmental EndPointsasEarly IndicatorsofCellularToxicity Induced by Xenobiotics in Drosophila Melanogaster

Background: In this study, the toxicity of the different xenobiotics was tested on the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster model system.  Methods: Fly larvae were raised on food supplemented with xenobioticsat different concentrations (sodium nitroprusside (0.1-1.5 mM), S-nitrosoglutathione (0.5-4 mM), and potassium ferrocyanide (1 mM)). Emergence of flies, food intake by larvae, and pupation h...
